Conference events & programme

The Sir Alec Cairncross Memorial Dinner will be on Monday. This will be preceded by a Civic Reception hosted by John Hulbert, Provost of Perth and Kinross Council. At the dinner the Cairncross Prize will be awarded. The Conference Dinner will be held on Tuesday at The Falkirk Wheel. This will be preceded by a boat tour of the installation.

The 2012 SES President's Lecture will be held by Gregory Clark, Professor of Economics at the University of California, Davis. The topic for the SES Policy Forum in 2011 will be "Devolution and Fiscal Independence".

A new feature of the programme is that there will be special sessions on econometrics techniques and on publishing targeted at PhD students and younger lecturers.

Conference registration & pricing

Delegates are now able to register through this web site by picking one of the options (PayPal buttons) below. Please note that you do no need to subscribe to PayPal in order to register, and that you can pay with any major credit card or via bank transfer. Registration will close on March 30th. Please make sure that you have read the instructions before clicking any buttons!

Available registration options

  1. Our standard resident delegate pack (a conference fee of £ 448 applies, rebated to £ 248 for PhD students). This includes room and board at the conference hotel — or a comparable alternative if there is an overflow — from April 16th to April 18th (two nights), both conference dinners as well as all conference events. Resident delegates also receive free membership of the Scottish Economics Society for one year, which includes a subscription to the Scottish Journal of Political Economy. (If you're already a member of SES, you won't need a duplicate membership, so please use the members' pack (£ 410) below.)
  2. Day delegate passes for Monday (£ 100), Tuesday (£ 100) or Wednesday (£ 80). These cover all conference events on the respective day, inclusive of lunch and the conference dinners. Day delegates have to find their own accomodation, however, and do not become members of SES.
  3. Students enrolled in a PhD programme at a Scottish university are invited to attend the conference programme on Monday, April 16th for free (excluding the Cairncross Dinner & Dance).

Extras

The Mercure Perth Hotel offers extra nights for delegates at a special rate. If you arrive before the Monday and/or leave on the Thursday or later, please call (00 44 844 815 9105 / option 2) or send an email and make your wishes known. This also applies to dietary requirements.

Accompanying spouses and partners, however, should be registered through us. This enables us to make sure that a sufficient number of seats is available at the conference function. If you want to register an accompanying person, please drop us a line at ses@public-economics.com.

Any applicable fees for extras will be collected by the Mercure Perth Hotel at their reception desk when you check out.

Registration for the conference is now closed. Please note that Scottish PhD students of Economics are still invited to attend Monday's programme (excluding the evening entertainment) free of charge. Cairncross Competition

The Scottish Economic Society will award a prize of £ 1000 for the best paper presented at the 2012 annual conference by an economist currently registered for a PhD or who has successfully completed a PhD within the last five years. Consideration for the prize presupposes conference attendance and society membership.
